Since the creation of LabISEN – Yncréa Ouest in the late 1990s, research and innovation have been at the core of every endeavour. The Unit’s activities span across multiple sites including Brest, Caen, Nantes, and Rennes.
LabISEN – Yncréa Ouest holds a distinctive position within the French academic ecosystem as an EESPIG-certified Association research laboratory (Etablissement d’Enseignement Supérieur Privé d’Intérêt Général — Private Higher Education Institution of General Interest). Its registration number in the French national directory of research institutions is 199424128G.
The chosen model at Yncréa Ouest prioritizes the strategic objective of maintaining cohesive collaboration among the Association’s various locations through geographically dispersed research teams.
LabISEN – Yncréa Ouest focuses on three main research domains: data processing, sensor networks, and smart grids.
Within each thematic area, a particular set of research strengths have been identified. These provide a pool of expertise that can be drawn upon by all members of the lab.
The key research strengths are also complemented by a number of transversal competencies and topics of interest. It is the combination of these various areas of expertise which has led to the emergence of a central and common project focusing on autonomous and intelligent systems.

The three key areas of research interest at LabISEN – Yncréa Ouest lab are conducted within the framework of seven topic-based teams: AutoRob, ESE, KLaIM, LSL, SEACOM, UF and VISION-AD.
The organization also encompasses Life Technologies –a development research group–as well as an observatory team dedicated to Humanities, Economics, and Social Sciences.
Thus, LabISEN’s common research project is reinforced through the active participation of each of the seven research teams and groups in at least two thematic areas.
